• These pages were created with the aim of sharing our experiences with some methods of cell biology especially in the field of DNA replication and cell cycle analyses. At this moment, you can find here the basic protocols for the detection of replicating cells with 5-bromo-2´-deoxyuridine (BrdU) or 5-ethynyl-2´-deoxyuridine (EdU) by flow cytometry or microscopy or simultaneous detection of DNA replication with BrdU and EdU. These protocols were optimized with respect to signal intensity and the effect on cell structure. We provided also the protocol for the detection of mitochondrial DNA and their replication in situ using BrdU, the protocol for the fast and sensitive detection of polyadenylated RNA in situ, the protocol for introduction of small molecules into cells using hypotonic shift, recipes for the preparation of basic solutions used in the described protocols and also some tips for the selection of the convenient protocol for the detection of replicating cells.

  • Simultaneously, we would like to present two devices simplifying the laboratory work with magnetic separations and cytocentrifugation. These devices were developed as we missed similar solutions on the market. In addition, they provided us with a cheaper way to process our samples.

  • We believe that the described methods and devices can help both the beginners and also more experienced researchers in the field of cell biology. Simultaneously, we hope that we will be able to improve the content of the pages by further methods and tips in the future. We will be grateful for any ideas and comments as we know that the reaction of the readers is the best way to improve these pages. Please note that we are not native English speakers and therefore, we apologize for any discomfort when reading the text.
